Information about our programs

The au pair program is promoted locally and overseas in different ways.

The process of placement might take time and cannot be guaranteed. Our Au pairs come sometimes from overseas or from another city in Australia. It may take time for their arrival. Once the first placement goes well within your family, Au Pair House aims to keep booking and placing au pairs every time the family becomes available for placement again. Au Pair House always tries to keep families booked so you wouldn’t stay without one! Once it is started, you will find it is the best help you could have in your life!

How much does cost to have an au pair, and when do I pay?
The fee charged for receiving one of our au pairs is $110 per placement.

Payment is only required after we confirm the au pair arrival details and placement with you.

Our bank account details will be provided in the invoice, with the full amount and details of our services.

How it works:

· The au pair does not pay for anything to the family
· The family does not pay anything to the au pair
· It is an exchange program where an au pair will work in exchange for accommodation and 3 meals a day, 7 days a week
· The au pair will do maximum 4 hour work in the house, and will have free time every day.
· The work will be described before commencement, so the international client will know exactly what to do, when to start and finish everyday.
· The au pair, housekeeper or nanny should be treated as a member of the family. The host family invites the au pair into their house, who will have their own bedroom, and be able to share facilities of the house
· The international client can do anything they want in their free time. For example: stay at home and relax, go to the shopping centre or beach, find a job, work in different places, travel etc

Managing the relationship

We will offer several key points of guidance to achieving a successful relationship with your au pair.

Au pairs are young, often learning a new language and customs, as well as being a long way from their family and friends. Be patient, and supportive, particularly during the inevitable early adjustment period.

Ensure your au pair is one of the family and treated with respect. They should have the option of joining the family in most activities, including on weekends, allowing the au pair the opportunity to impart elements of their culture into your family.

How can families arrange or change their duties?
You should tell the au pair from the beginning what you expect of her while you are living together and what you do not like. Please give a lot of praise for everything that worked positively, it is important for the au pair to know and feel how things are going, especially because they will be speaking with you in their second language. If you need to change or to add duties and hours into the daily program, the family must talk to au pair, and if it is not very clear or both parts are not fully happy, the family can involve Au Pair House only once in during the first month of placement to assist in the change, with a Japanese translator.

What is like to have an au pair in my home?

It is not always easy for your temporary family member to settle into your family. In the beginning au pairs will need your help until they know what exactly they shall do and how your family functions. But once settled in, both families and au pairs enjoy their changing lifestyle and experiences together.

On the commencement date be clear with the au pairs responsibilities and working hours. Do not be tempted to take advantage of the au pairs free time. It often helps to keep the daily work routine in a place that is easy for everybody see, which can help confusion to be avoided.

Am I able to change the au pair once the program has started?
It might be possible that you are not completely satisfied with your current arrangement, and in most cases it is possible to change. In general, this is possible and will not raise a problem. If you would like to dissolve the contract, normally you can do this with a 14-day announcement. The family and the au pair will have an offer of a second match placement, however this offer is only available for the first month of the original placement agreement. Au Pair House cannot guarantee location or dates for the second match due to current availability.
